How to Deal with Roughening of Slip-on Flange Surface

Whether the surface of slip-on flange is smooth or not determines the connecting effect of sealing surface. There are many such rough slip-on flange in normal contact, which are difficult to seal. Therefore, the roughness of ASME B16.5 DN100 Class 150 RF Slip-on Flange is very important for sealing effect.

Firstly, the surface roughness of slip-on flange has a great influence on sealing effect, especially when non-soft gaskets are used, the surface roughness of slip-on flange is one of the main reasons for leakage. For example, when turning slip-on flange surface, the cutter grain is helix. When using metal gasket, if the roughness value is large, the gasket can not block the cutter grain. The formed spiral groove, under the action of pressure, the medium will leak out along the groove. Soft gaskets require much less polish on slip-on flange surfaces. This is because it is easy to deform, can block the processing cutter grain, thus preventing leakage. For soft gaskets, slip-on flange that are too smooth are disadvantageous, because the resistance of interface leakage becomes smaller at this time.

Therefore, if the surface roughness of flange is relatively large, we can use some soft gaskets to ensure the sealing of slip-on flange with bolted flange.
